Stratum is the internal deployment and observability platform we built for a mid-size fintech scaling rapidly across three regions. The goal was infrastructure that the product engineering teams never had to think about.
The engineering team was spending more time managing infrastructure than building product. Deployments were manual, fragile, and fear-inducing. Incidents were reactive.
We rebuilt the deployment pipeline from first principles with two constraints: every deployment should be reversible in under two minutes, and every incident should generate its own runbook automatically. Both shipped.
Deployment frequency increased significantly after Stratum launched. More importantly, the team started treating deployments as a non-event — which is exactly what they should be.
