Forma is a design system foundation — not a UI library. It provides the structural layer on which product teams build their own systems: token architecture, semantic naming conventions, and a generation pipeline that keeps code and design perpetually in sync.
Most design systems solve for consistency. Forma was asked to solve for scale — how do you maintain coherence across four product lines, three platforms, and eleven teams, without creating a centralised bottleneck?
Distributed ownership with centralised contracts. We designed the token layer as the source of truth and built tooling that let individual product teams extend the system without breaking it. The system governs; the teams decide.
Forma reduced cross-team design inconsistencies by establishing a shared contract language. Teams report shipping features faster because the structural decisions are already made.
